Christmas break soon!

It is finally snowing. Kinda exciting to be seeing bits of snowflakes falling from the sky for the first time =) Last I checked, temperature is -1 Celcius. So cool, literally haha.

This is the last week for the autumn term. Christmas break is coming soon. Plans? Tour the UK a bit. Plan to visit Bath, Birmingham, and Manchester, then come back to London for Boxing Day. I am not the one looking forward to the mad rush of Boxing Day, it's the girls =.= But gonna go see for myself what Boxing Day is all about =)

So, 1st term of uni life is drawing to an end. So far so good. Autumn term is relatively relaxed, for chem eng people anyone. EEE folks might swoon when they read this. One of my EEE friend is already overnighting in the library doing work hahaha. But I anticipate a really packed Winter term so gonna use the holidays to catch up with my work and try to stay abreast with lectures and tutorials.

That's all for now. Take care everyone.

Random thoughts

1am, 5 Dec 2009. It's raining again, how typical. I am loving the silent night. Everything is so still, and here I am sitting in front of my laptop, thinking about what to blog. Well winter has arrived, but it feels no different from autumn. Maybe I am beginning to get used to the cold, or maybe global warming is taking its toll on London lol, but these days I just wear my jacket over a T shirt, nothing more. Before I venture too far into "weather talks", perhaps I should write about things that have transpired so far. Winter break is coming soon, but so is the Christmas Test that is right before the break, lol. The thing about my uni life, for now at least, is that I seem to be able to choose how busy I want it to be. So far I have not really committed myself to any clubs or society except for Malaysian Society. I am in the badminton school team yeah, but only attended training once cos I have been rather lazy to wake up early on Saturday mornings... the Southwell gang knows why=) Might try to join the school chess team as well.... the school players seem rather keen to have me in the team =D

Studies is getting more and more challenging. Some parts are quite interesting, some boring, and when I say boring I mean really boooorrrrriiiinnnggg. The kind that makes you wanna bring a pillow to school so you can sleep better during lectures hahaha. Beginning to like my course more and more despite all that, but sometimes I still wonder if I should have taken aero instead... hmmm...

Alright, gonna sleep now. Night all.

Brief update

The last post was almost 3 weeks ago oO Time really flies in uni, scary. Needless to say, I have been really busy, as you can see from the frequency of my updates lately. School work, cooking dinner, packing lunch, shopping, roaming around London, M Night practices, badminton (only attended training once HAHAHA), Friday night GMs etc etc. As you may have noticed, a lot of my recent preoccupations are not related to school work. Shopping can be a time consuming affair when I keep having that calculator in my head telling me that every 1 pound I squander is RM 6 down the drain =.= Don't worry though. On the whole I am coping well. I will need to do some catching up here and there, but I am well aware of what needs to be done.

School's been quite interesting for the past few weeks, especially when I was having "Design". Gave me a taste of what the future working life as an engineer may be like. Still remember the first question that Bismarck posed to us during the first Design tutorial - How do you prevent plane crashes? The answers that came up were the usual radars, communication, etc etc. But Bismarck was looking for something simpler, like just halting all flights, or destroying all the aeroplanes so no crash could possibly happen. Sounds crazy? In retrospect it doesn't sound that crazy. Lots of times we complicate issues when clear cut answers are available. Not talking about the plane crash problem here of course.

Alright, that's all for now. Off to do some work. Ciao!

Cooking

It's been more than 1 month since I started cooking on a daily basis. So far, things seem ok - no food poisoning etc haha, and honestly I really like some of the dishes I made. Some notable ones:

1. Curry
Sorry for bragging, but it was awesome! Hadn't had curry for quite a while and eating it in a cold autumn night was certainly awesome! (Sh*t, Jon infected me with the "awesome word" disease=.=) I am not talking about some ready-made curry paste here, but curry made from actual curry powder brought over from Malaysia (thanks a million to Hui Yen^^), cooked together with evaporated milk, chicken, tomatoes, and potatoes that melt in the soup and made the whole texture super creamy. Awesome haha.

2. Soup
Of various types. So far, tried seaweed, ABC and lotus soup. Seaweed soup was somewhat mediocre (no idea why=.=) but ABC and lotus were really great. The angmos must have been puzzled to see us keeping chicken bones after slicing the meat off chicken thighs lol. But seriously, none of the canned soups can match the ones we made. Planning to do black bean soup someday=)

3. Prawn biscuits (??!!)
Literal translation from Chinese. Basically it's small prawns fried with wheat flour, spring onion and onion in clumps. My mom cooks that often. Malaysia's shrimps taste better though, sweeter. Nevertheless, Chee Leong, Hui Yen and Shari seemed to enjoy the "prawn biscuits" I made=) Will do more of those if I can find time, good stuff though fattening haha.

A bit lazy to write on. Gonna go back to my work, so ciao for now.
PS: Forgot my skype username=.= Can someone tell me what it is please?

Ecstacy!!

Awesome was the only word for it. Simply awesome. Kudos to UCL Malaysian Society for organizing Ecstacy, which was a clubbing event I am unlikely to forget for a very long time to come. It was held on Monday in Maddox Club, a rather exclusive club in Mayfair. Second time entering a club, but this time I really let loose and danced like crazy=). (unlike my first clubbing experience during which I timidly sat at a table with my friends sipping vodka) Music was blasting, the people swaying, and the whole dance floor was so heated I actually sweated as though I ran through a 5km marathon. Went there at 11+ pm, started with niceties and a bit of socializing, but by 12 pm my friends and I were practically dancing non-stop. One good song after another, what to do. It's a nice change to see the "wilder side" of some people, especially the Imperialists who are often (and unjustly) labelled as nerds=.=

Anyway, we left at 3+ am and I finally got to sleep at 4.30 am. So you can imagine how it was like for me yesterday (after 3 hours of sleep, woke up at 7.30am for class=.=). But still, no regrets going to Maddox, at all.

PS: Don't worry I am not a clubbing addict, just wanted to experience how it is like to club in London that's all=)
